Sheryl Sandberg's New Book Is All About Living With Loss
Ever since the sudden death of her husband last year, Sheryl Sandberg has been candid about her grieving process. Now, she'll document it in print.
Recode reports that Facebook COO has just about wrapped up work onOption B,a new book about loss and resilience. The title refers to advice she was given by a friend in the wake of disaster.
"A few weeks after Dave died, I was talking to my friend, Phil, about a father-son activity that Dave was not here to do," Sandberg said in the commencement speech she delivered at the University of California, Berkeley, in May. "We came up with a plan to fill in for Dave. I cried to him, 'But I want Dave.' Phil put his arm around me and said, 'Option A is not available. So let's just kick the shit out of Option B.'"
Sandberg, whose last book,Lean In, became aNew York Times-bestseller and launched a national conversation about women's empowerment and advancement, has co-written the book with Adam Grant, a professor at Wharton. All the proceeds fromOption Bwill be donated to the Lean In organization.
Grant wrote in a Facebook post that "Option Bis about how we can face the adversity in our lives, find meaning and bounce back stronger." If anyone can teach us, Sandberg can.
